Ken Martin writes about theKen Martin high country of the Rocky Mountains. His essays and poetry have appeared in journals including River Teeth Journal, Colorado Life Magazine, Absolute Magnitude, Notre Dame Lawyer, Oyez Review, and various newspapers. He regularly submits poetry to online journals including Scribe, Mad River, Blue Insights, and Imogene’s Notebook through Medium.com. An  essay on solitude and hiking mountains at night is featured in The Mountains Where The Moon Hides Autumn and was first published in Appalachia, America's Longest Running Journal of Mountaineering under the title "The Dark Sky Where Orion Sleeps."

Ken holds a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University, Master of Science from Purdue University, and Doctor of Jurisprudence (cum laude) from Notre Dame Law School. He began his professional career as an environmental scientist with Earth Satellite Corporation (Earthsat) in Washington, D.C., specializing in natural resource mapping and management. During this time, he became interested in law, and after attending Notre Dame Law School, practiced as an attorney representing clients in the courts of Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois. In addition to his private practice, he has also written and filed more than a hundred appellant briefs with the Court of Appeals of Indiana. He has appeared at the invitation of the Indiana Supreme Court on several occasions to argue cases on double jeopardy and criminal sentencing.

Ken draws inspiration from hiking deserts and mountains across the West and travels extensively with his wife, Cherie, and their English bulldog, Mac. Cherie is a retired educator who was past president of the local chapters of the League of Women Voters and Kiwanis.

Ken most recently served on the Board of Directors of the Estes Valley Land Trust (EVLT) and was Chairman of the EVLT Legal Committee.  Currently, he is a Co-Trustee for a private holding in Indiana.
